Every destination has one viewpoint that puts everything in perspective. In The Mandalika, it's Merese Hill. Rising between Tanjung Aan and the open Indian Ocean, this is where the whole coastline reveals itself — the twin bays curving to the east, rugged headlands stretching west, and nothing but endless blue ahead.

Getting there is easier than the view suggests. A short, gentle climb leads up to rolling grassy ridges — no gear, no guide, just a few unhurried minutes on foot. Then the landscape opens up in every direction, and you understand why so many of Mandalika's most iconic photos were taken right here.

Late afternoon is when the hill earns its reputation: the grass turns golden, the light softens, and Merese becomes the area's favorite sunset gathering spot. But here's a local secret — come at sunrise instead, and you'll have the same view in morning light, with barely another soul around.

Before you climb: wear proper footwear and bring water — there's little shade at the top. The view more than makes up for it.
